spring market update 2022
Back to Spring High Point in Person!
After a couple of years off, Spring High Point Market was back, and without masks! While less product was available than in past years and one major manufacturer was closed for complete renovation of their showroom (which included several lines), I was eager to be at Spring Market in person.
Though Covid lifestyle restrictions were relaxed at market, issues like material and labor shortages are still causing most upholstery manufacturers to be backed up with long lead times, varying from as little as six to eight weeks up to 36 weeks! And a large amount of casegoods and accessories remain on that “slow boat from China”. So, of course the hunt was on for available in-stock merchandise. I’m happy to report we were still able to successfully curate one-of-a-kind pieces and to keep our showroom floor stocked with a variety of interesting finds despite the continued supply chain obstacles.

Textures & Materials
Soft and natural textures like velvet, sherpa and boucle were found in abundance at market – reflecting the renewed importance we’ve given to comfort in our home environments in recent years.
Biophilia – recognizing benefits of nature on productivity and well-being through use of natural materials like wood, stone, metal and woven wicker or rattan – continued showing up as a way to seamlessly connect our indoor and outdoor environments.
Form
In addition to natural textures, organic shapes were still popular with an even greater emphasis on sculptural elements since last Market. This was seen not only in upholstery and casegoods but also increasingly in light fixtures and accessories like wall mirrors.

Pattern
The layering of playful and floral patterns as well as monotone geometric patterns (both on furniture and rugs) were in abundance.

Looking ahead to fall
I look forward to seeing the reopening of some major showrooms in the fall, including one of our major suppliers that gave theirs an extensive rehab. Perhaps this will allow the opportunity for manufacturers to bring in more new product next time. I’ll be sure to report back what I see then and curate a whole new trove of treasures for our clients and the showroom!
