Embracing Biophilic Design & Sustainability
In a bold move during the pandemic, this engineering firm ventured into a 22,000-square-foot space, redefining workspace dynamics. Our commitment was to both biophilic design and sustainability while dealing with the issues of the pandemic.
Seamless Synergy
Biophilic design, perfectly aligned with their environmental projects, not only enhanced their workplace but also boosted physical and mental well-being and productivity. We integrated elements like exposed concrete columns, stone, brick, metal, and floor-to-ceiling exterior glass office windows, allowing views of lush greenery. The interior offices were also glass and received light from the clerestory window wall in the hallway. We took their engineering project photos and turned them into unique wall murals, and hallway art transformed into contemporary digital pieces on metal.
Elevating Every Detail
Our responsibilities encompassed a comprehensive overhaul, from space design adjustments to furniture layout, lighting, finish selections, logo and wayfinding signage, and custom designs like the reception desk. The desk itself is a blend of wood, metal, and stone that echoes the biophilic theme, while still being an efficient working space.
The conference room is divided by movable doors that can allow the option of small conference rooms or one big, open space. The large conference room can accommodate up to 30 people. Both conference tables incorporated technology, eliminating the need for tabletop holes, and ensuring easy sanitization during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Small meeting pods were also created in all wings of the office, giving space for small meetings for up to 2-6 people. These tables can be raised or lowered to allow for standing or sitting as do the chairs.
The space also contains a kitchen, breakroom, and wellness room. The kitchen was built to accommodate all by adding in double microwaves. The breakroom has golf, ping-pong, and tv. The wellness room is beneficial for privacy and
In the reception area, the porcelain tiles mimic the look of natural stone while being VOC-free, making them exempt from LEED testing criteria. These dense and durable tiles are not just aesthetically pleasing but also ecologically beneficial.
