Sustainability is Prevelant
Sustainability continues to grow in importance. For example, a sofa displayed with a group of recycled plastic bottles reveals how soft the fabric is in the upholstery fabric created from them. I have remarked on the technology of materials before but want to mention a few for you to watch for. Pinatex, a natural material for vegan leather, is a by-product of pineapple harvest. Econyl uses recycled synthetic waste from the ocean made from recaptured fishing nets left behind. Omonos is a synthetic material from microbes and spider silk genes said to be the toughest fiber in nature. This continues to amaze me!
Barbiecore vs. grandmacore
We have all experienced Barbiecore, but have you heard about Grandmacore? There is a resurgence of grandmother crafts like quilting, embroidery, and crochet designs. It’s nostalgia. Traditional pieces with heirloom qualities are appearing and perhaps feeding the sustainability values. I did see evidence of dark woods, and some more contemporary adaptions of past designs. There was also a lot of light wood and combinations of materials.
All of this is interesting and reflects what is out there for you to consider, but I still believe your home should reflect you, and not trends. Perhaps you can find some items in all the market photos that reflect you, enhance your space, and make you happy. You can still choose personal values over external opinions. Happy shopping and Design House is full to the brim with products for you to peruse!
