The 5 “R” Resolutions
Are you taking down those Christmas decorations and your space is looking a little bare, boring, or just uninspired? Maybe it is not functioning that well for you either. You need an enjoyment return on your home investment. Consider one or more of the five “R” resolutions for the new year – refresh, renovate, renew, repurpose, or remodel.
Small Changes Make The Biggest Difference
Even a small change can make a big difference. Fresh paint or wallpaper is a quick and powerful transition. This is not a major investment that is more costly and permanent like a renovation or remodel. Another valuable solution would be to enlist the support of an interior designer to simply do a more inspired, but functional space plan, rearranging or repurposing furnishings to improve the function and flow. Of course, a designer would be able to help with all of the “Rs”.
Another option in the mid-range, depending on the selections and the amount needed, would be to improve and update the lighting. Proper lighting shows off your furnishings, creates an ambiance and can also be the jewelry of the room, depending on if it is the general lighting with improved color rendering or a decorative piece that becomes the focal point. Mirrors in the right places can also lighten and expand the space. Just be careful with what they are reflecting so they are not just showing a plain wall or mechanics, but rather interesting architecture or art.
Customized Tweaks
Custom window treatments not only affect the temperature and sound in the room, but also frame the view of the outside. There are so many textile options for different uses and motorizing them can make your life a lot easier, and you will probably use them more frequently. In certain areas, like the bedroom, the ability to darken the room with blackout lining in the window coverings for valuable sleep is another use, and a way to improve your life and health.
Things to consider when deciding what you can do:
Does your space support your lifestyle?
Does it function well, make you happy and comfortable?
Does it enrich your life?
If it doesn’t, then breathe new life into your home and address all the senses to make it your sanctuary for the new year. Then decide whether you need to refresh, renovate, renew, repurpose, or remodel, and of course determine the amount you are prepared to invest in creating your best environment. We would love to see your solutions!
